Access and Information
Vestmannsvatn is located in Reykjadalur in Northeast Iceland and lies beside Route 845. The lake covers an area of approximately 2.4 km² and has an average depth of around 3 metres, with a maximum depth of approximately 10 metres.
Fishing is permitted in the lake for holders of a valid fishing permit (Veiðikortið). The lake primarily contains Arctic char and brown trout, with occasional Atlantic salmon also caught each summer. Vestmannsvatn supports abundant fish stocks and offers excellent fishing opportunities for the whole family.
Protection Status
Vestmannsvatn was designated a nature reserve in 1977. The protected area covers 562.9 hectares.
