Pollengi and Tunguey

The area is important for its wetlands and birdlife. The landscape is characterised in part by salt marshes and periodically flooded meadows, while large sections remain permanently submerged.

Protection Status

Pollengi and Tunguey were designated a nature reserve in 1994. The reserve covers an area of approximately 657.5 hectares. The purpose of the protection designation was to protect the wetlands and birdlife of the area. Tunguey is not accessible on foot, except when conditions allow travel across ice.
