Access and information
Ósland is an island connected to Höfn í Hornafirði by a causeway. Parking is available on Óslandshæð and at the end of Óslandsvegur, closest to Hornafjörður. A walking trail leads from the car park around the island.
The Ósland Country Park is managed by the Municipality of Hornafjörður.
Interpretation
Protection Status
Ósland Nature Reserve (fólkvangur) was first designated a protected area in 1982, and the designation was revised in 2011. The nature reserve covers approximately 16.9 hectares. The purpose of the protection designation is to provide an area for outdoor recreation and environmental education in the Municipality of Hornafjörður. An additional objective is to protect the area’s distinctive geological formations and diverse birdlife. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) protected area classification system, Ósland is classified as a Category V protected landscape/seascape.
