Nes­kaup­stað­ur Nature Reserve

The nature reserve is ideal for outdoor recreation, nature observation, and education, offering majestic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and diverse geological formations.

Access and Information

To reach the Neskaupstaður nature reserve, follow Norðfjarðarvegur (Route 50), then continue via Egilsbraut, Nesgata, and finally Bakkavegur. A parking area is located at the end of the road, where hiking trails through the nature reserve begin.

The area is managed by Fjarðabyggð Municipality.

Protection status

Neskaupstaður Nature Reserve was designated as a protected area in 1972 and was the first of its kind in Iceland. The nature reserve covers an area of 318.4 hectares.
