Krossa­nesborg­ir

The area is characterised by numerous rocky outcrops and short bedrock ridges. The exposed bedrock has been shaped by Ice Age glaciers, and glacially sculpted rock surfaces and roche moutonnées can be seen throughout the landscape.

Interpretation

Protection Status

Krossanesborgir was designated a nature reserve (fólkvangur) in 2005. The objective of the designation is to protect the area for public outdoor recreation, nature appreciation, and education.

The protected area also safeguards an important breeding site for numerous bird species, habitats for rare plant species, and distinctive geological formations, thereby contributing to the conservation of both biological and geological diversity.

The nature reserve covers an area of 114.8 hectares.
