To protect the lava stalactites and delicate cave formations, access to Jörundur Cave is prohibited without permission from the Iceland Nature Conservation Agency.
Interpretation
Protection Status
Jörundur Cave was designated a natural monument in 1985. The lava stalactites within the cave had already been protected under Regulation No. 120/1974, a designation that applies to stalactite formations in all caves throughout Iceland.
