Access and Information
Sigölduleið (Road 208) provides access to Landmannalaugar from Sprengisandsvegur (F26). Fjallabaksleið nyrðri (F208) runs between Landssveit and Skaftártunga, passing through Fjallabak Nature Reserve. Landmannaleið (F225) branches off Road 26 towards Landmannahellir via Dómadalur, before joining Road 208 near Frostastaðavatn. Visitors should always check road and weather conditions before travelling into the Highlands.
During the summer season, visitors arriving at Landmannalaugar in their own vehicles between 09:00 and 16:00 are required to reserve a parking space in advance and pay the applicable service fee before arrival.

During the summer, visitors arriving at Landmannalaugar by private vehicle between 9:00 and 16:00 must reserve a parking space in advance and pay a service fee before arrival. Reservations can be made through the Parka website.
Landmannalaugar
Landmannalaugar lies amid a spectacular landscape of colourful rhyolite mountains, rugged lava fields and sweeping highland valleys. Numerous hiking trails lead from the hut area into the surrounding mountains, offering routes for a wide range of abilities. Landmannalaugar is also the starting point of the Laugavegur Trail, one of Iceland’s best known and most popular long distance hiking routes.
Protection Status
Fjallabak Nature Reserve was designated a nature reserve in 1979. The area's defining characteristics include its diverse landscapes and landscape units, remarkable variety of geological features and geothermal phenomena, unique yet fragile ecosystems, extensive wilderness, tranquillity, and vivid natural colours. The purpose of the designation is to protect these outstanding geological features, landscapes, biodiversity, and the area's unspoilt wilderness character.
The reserve covers approximately 446.24 km².
