Protection Status
Eldey was designated a protected area in 1974. The island rises 77 metres above the sea in sheer cliffs and lies off the coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Access to Eldey is prohibited without permission from the Nature Conservation Agency of Iceland. To protect the island’s birdlife, shooting is prohibited within 2 km of the island.
