Dynjandi is one of the best known landmarks of the Westfjords. It is considered by many to be among the most majestic waterfalls in Iceland, and its beauty is widely praised. Dynjandi is 99 meters high and is the uppermost waterfall in the series along Dynjandisá river. Below it are seven additional waterfalls, after which the river flows a short distance to the sea.

Protection Status
Dynjandi and the other waterfalls in Dynjandisá river, together with their surrounding area, were designated a natural monument in 1981. The aim of the protection is to preserve Dynjandi and the other waterfalls in the river, together with their surroundings at Dynjandisvogur cove.
The boundaries of the natural monument extend from the tip of Meðalnes point up to the mountain ridges, following the mountain edges around the cove and Dynjandisdalur valley as far as the boundary of the Dynjandi estate in Urðarhlíð, and then along the boundary to the sea.
The natural monument covers an area of 6.4 square kilometers.
