Protection Status
Dettifoss, Selfoss, Hafragilsfoss, and their immediate surroundings on the eastern side of Jökulsá á Fjöllum were designated a natural monument in 1996.
The waterfalls and their surrounding landscape were protected in order to preserve the waterfalls of Jökulsá á Fjöllum and their immediate natural environment.
