Enjoying Icelandic Nature Responsibly

The Nature Conservation Act contains provisions on the right of public access, responsible conduct and outdoor recreation. It states that everyone has the right to travel through the countryside and enjoy nature, provided that they do so with care and avoid causing damage or disturbance.

Right of Public Access

The right to travel freely through the countryside is a valued part of Icelandic culture and identity. It is based on trust and mutual respect, allowing us to enjoy nature while helping to preserve it for future generations.
